Tragically in December of 2023 we lost a young student and competitor, Ryan Bates. We simply do not have the adequate words to express what a special young man he was and how much he'll be missed. Ryan started in our kid's program and moved into the adult classes after years of dedication both within the academy and outside of it in tournaments. Anyone who trained with him will remember his infectious smile and happy attitude, as well as an underlying intensity and focus during sparring.

In coordination with his family, the Ryan Bates’ Scholarship was formed in his honor. This scholarship will cover training expenses at Foster Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for those who want to continue Ryan’s legacy on the mats for 1 year but can’t otherwise afford the cost of tuition.
